NATIONAL COUNCIL OF SENIOR CITIZENS CONVENES REGIONAL CONFERENCE IN NASHVILLE, TENN.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 150 senior citizens from 10 states will converge on Nashville, Tenn., Friday, Aug. 6, to attend the 1993 Southeast Regional Conference of the National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC). Delegates representing senior citizen clubs and councils in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia will focus on health care reform during the three-day meeting to be held at the Stouffer Nashville Hotel.
"The Nashville meeting is the second of six such regional conferences being held by NCSC this year to focus attention on the health care crisis and the need for a national health care plan for all our citizens," said NCSC President Eugene Glover. "Our purpose is to provide our grassroots leaders with an opportunity to work on strategy while sharpening their organizational and lobbying skills," he said.
NCSC, which represents more than 5 million members, is the senior citizen organization that led the successful fight to win the enactment of the Medicare program in the 1960s.
The National Council of Senior Citizens, founded in 1961 in the fight for Medicare, is an organization of more than 5,000 affiliated local clubs, area council and state councils, with a total membership of over 5 million senior activists. Together, NCSC members work for state and federal legislation to benefit the elderly and their families, and advocate on behalf of senior citizens in communities across the United States.
