 hand to discuss the latest issues affecting the corn
 industry.
 SUBJECT: Ethanol. President Trotter will comment on recent
 communications with the Administration and NCGA's
 view of ethanol's future role in the Clean Air Act
 Amendments.
 BACKGROUND: NCGA sent a letter to President Bush on Aug. 5,
 calling for a decision on ethanol's participation in
 the reformulated gasoline program by Aug. 25.
 On Aug. 3 and Aug. 18, NCGA and the ethanol
 industry provided EPA with sound technical
 information that shows ethanol performs almost
 identically to petroleum-based MTBE in the reduced
 formation of low level ozone or smog. EPA has
 approved MTBE for participation in the RFG market.
