NATIONAL COMMUNITY BANKS MAKES STATEMENT ON ACQUISITION RUMORS

 WEST PATERSON, N.J., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- National Community Banks, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: NCBR) announced today that it is aware of rumors that it may be a candidate for acquisition. Commenting on these rumors, Robert M. Kossick, chairman and chief executive officer, stated; "Our bank like many banks has been approached from time to time by potential acquirors. We are now involved in discussions regarding possible acquisition transactions. However, the board of directors has not made a decision to engage in any such transaction and there can be no assurance that any transaction will result."
