NATIONAL COAL ASSOCIATION RESPONDS TO APPROVAL
 OF COMPREHENSIVE NATIONAL ENERGY STRATEGY
WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- National Coal Association President Richard L. Lawson issued the statement in response to congressional approval of a comprehensive national energy strategy:
Congressional enactment of the National Energy Strategy marks a critical milestone in America's quest to become energy independent and energy self-sufficient.
For the first time in our nation's history we now have a comprehensive strategy that will provide the broad-based foundation necessary for further development and expansion of all domestic energy sources, including American coal. And the bill's framework provides for this continued and expanded use at the same time the security, economic and environmental objectives of the nation are met.
Thanks to the leadership of President Bush and the hard work of the United States Congress, the country is finally on the road to energy independence in a manner that will help all Americans by creating new jobs and keep billions of energy dollars at home rather than spending them on imported resources.
The new National Energy Strategy is good for America's future and good for American coal.
