NATIONAL CITY TO OPEN BRANCH IN WESTLAKE RINI-REGO GROCERY STORE

CLEVELAND, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Rini-Rego shoppers in Westlake may soon be topping their grocery lists with items like "car loan application" or "savings account deposit." That's because -- thanks to National City Bank -- they'll now be able to do their banking where they do their shopping.
National City is moving its Detroit-Bradley branch to a new office inside the Rini-Rego grocery store at Promenade Mall, on the corner of Crocker and Detroit roads in Westlake. The new office will open Aug. 15.
The Rini-Rego branch will offer the same full range of services as any traditional National City office -- including loans, lines of credit, and a
MoneyCenter(TM) automated teller machine. It will also offer extended service hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Customers of the old Detroit-Bradley branch won't need to open new accounts or order new checks; the bank will automatically transfer existing accounts to the new office.
The branch relocation is part of a strategy to expand National City's supermarket presence, according to Michelle Czernik, regional manager of supermarket banking. The bank's first grocery store branch opened last summer inside Rini-Rego's Stop-n-Shop in Avon Lake.
"The Avon Lake branch succeeded beyond our expectations," Czernik said. "Based on the success of that first office, we're planning two more supermarket openings before the end of this year -- and there could be as many as six openings in 1994."
National City Bank will offer several grand opening promotions to draw customers into the new branch. Visitors and customers will receive free gifts (while supplies last), including grocery shopping lists, helium balloons, golf tees, pens, and golf balls. For every new account opened, customers will receive four tickets to the Cleveland Metroparks RainForest. And from Aug. 15 through Dec. 31, 1993, customers can get special deals on bank products and services.
Shoppers are bound to get excited about the grand prize give-away -- a supermarket shopping spree. During the first two weeks of grand opening (Aug. 15-28), anyone 18 years or older may enter the "Race for Groceries" drawing. Two lucky winners will each have two minutes to gather as many items as possible up to a value of $1,000.
Entry forms for the shopping spree will be available at the new Detroit-Crocker branch and will also be accepted by mail. No purchase is necessary to enter. The spree will take place on Sept. 8, 1993.
National City Bank is the lead bank of National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC), a $29 billion diversified financial services company headquartered in Cleveland.
