NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION SELLS SIX CINCINNATI BRANCHES
CLEVELAND, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Corporation

(NYSE: NCC) confirmed today that it has agreed to sell the deposits of six branches in Cincinnati to Fifth Third Bancorp. The branches, with deposits of $125 million, were acquired in 1989 when National City bought GEM Savings, a Dayton-based savings and loan. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"Our analysis of options concluded that a minor retail presence in Cincinnati would not meet our profit objectives," said Edward B. Brandon, chairman and chief executive officer, National City Corporation. "However, we will continue to serve the Cincinnati market through National City's profitable loan production office, which has served the Cincinnati market for 10 years."
National City Corporation is a $29 billion diversified financial service company headquartered in Cleveland. National City operates banks and other financial service subsidiaries principally in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
