NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS; ALSO ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT

 NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS; ALSO ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT
 CLEVELAND, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) announced today that Rodney F. Chase, chairman and chief executive officer of BP America Inc., was appointed to the board of directors. Otto N. Frenzel III, chairman of Merchants National Corporation, and Stephen A. Stitle, vice president, Eli Lilly and Company, also were appointed to the board, effective upon the consummation of National City's proposed merger with Merchants National.
 In addition, Julien L. McCall, retired chairman of National City, was elected honorary director after retiring from the board pursuant to the Corporation's policy regarding director service.
 Vincent A. DiGirolamo, transition coordinator of the Merchants National merger, was elected executive vice president of National City Corporation. David L. Zoeller was elected senior vice president of National City Corporation, effective upon consummation of National City's proposed merger with Merchants National. Zoeller will also become general counsel and secretary of the corporation upon Robert T. Williams' retirement on June 1, 1992.
 In other related board matters, James R. Stover, retired chairman of Eaton Corporation, chose not to stand for reelection following his normal retirement from Eaton Corporation; and James H. Ross, former chairman and chief executive officer of BP America Inc., relinquished his seat to pursue a new career opportunity in Great Britain. Profile of Rodney F. Chase
 Rodney F. Chase was appointed chairman and chief executive officer of BP America Inc., and managing director of the British Petroleum Company plc., on March 21, 1992. Prior to this appointment, Chase was chief executive officer, Western Hemisphere, of BP Exploration Inc., and executive vice president and chief financial officer of BP America Inc. headquartered in Cleveland.

 Otto N. Frenzel, III has been chairman of the board of Merchants National Corporation, the parent company of Merchants National Bank & Trust Company, since April 17, 1979.
 Frenzel joined Merchants National Bank in 1956. He was elected to the board of directors in January 1964, and executive vice president in 1965. On Jan. 13, 1970, Frenzel was elected president of Merchants National Bank and on Nov. 21, 1972, Frenzel was elected chairman of the board, becoming the sixth member of the Frenzel family to serve Merchants National Bank as its chief executive officer.
 Frenzel is a 1954 graduate of the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce of the University of Pennsylvania. He served two years with the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of first lieutenant. Profile of Stephen A. Stitle
 Stephen A. Stitle has been vice president of human resources for Eli Lilly and Company since January 1988, and was elected to the Lilly board of directors in July, 1991. He is also a member of the Lilly board's executive committee. He joined Lilly as an attorney in 1971 and was named assistant counsel for Elizabeth Arden, Inc., a former Lilly subsidiary, in 1974. Later that year, he became secretary and counsel for the cosmetics firm. In 1977, he was named director of government relations and special counsel in the company's Washington, D.C. office. Returning to Indianapolis in 1980, he was named a director of personnel. In 1981, he became president and general manager of Eli Lilly Canada, Inc., in Scarborough, Ontario. Returning to Indianapolis in 1983, he was named deputy general counsel and assistant secretary for Eli Lilly and Company. In 1984, he was appointed secretary and deputy general counsel for the company. In 1986, he became president of the Monoclonal Products Division.
 Born in San Antonio, Texas, Stitle received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Indiana University in 1967, and was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1970. Profile of Vincent A. DiGirolamo
 Vincent A. DiGirolamo has served as transition coordinator of the Merchants merger with National City since December 1991. On April 21, 1992, the board of directors of Merchants National Bank elected DiGirolamo president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis- based bank, effective at the completion of the merger.
 Prior to his appointment as transition coordinator, DiGirolamo had been president and chief executive officer of National City Bank, Akron, since 1984. He previously served as senior vice president and deputy group head of retail banking.
 DiGirolamo joined National City Bank, Akron, in 1960, as a collector in the installment loan department. He became vice president and manager of consumer credit in 1969, and senior vice president of loans in 1976. He became executive vice president in 1978, and president of the Akron area in 1981. At that time, he was also named senior vice president, northeast regional executive, and head of the northeast Ohio corporate banking division.
 DiGirolamo received his B.S. degree in commerce from Ohio University in 1959 and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking in 1973. He also attended the Graduate Commercial Lending School Program from the University of Oklahoma in 1978. Profile of David L. Zoeller
 David L. Zoeller has been senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Merchants National Corporation since 1983. Prior to that, he was assistant secretary and assistant treasurer of Stokely- Van Camp, Inc.
