NATIONAL CITY CORPORATION ANNOUNCES ADOPTION OF
 COMMON CORPORATE-WIDE IDENTITY
CLEVELAND, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) today announced that, over the next 36 months, its banking and trust units in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana will adopt the "National City" name.
The adoption of a common corporate-wide identity enables the Corporation to capitalize on cost savings ideas that have surfaced during the "Vision" project analysis. ("Vision" refers to National City Corporation's cost redesign program through which it expects to achieve annual cost savings of $50-$100 million.) This decision does not affect National City's commitment to autonomy on lending and deposit practices. These are merely name changes, not mergers. Local management and boards of directors will not be affected.
"The move to a common identity establishes a closer name association between National City Corporation and its member units which should improve general public and investor awareness." said Edward B. Brandon, chairman and CEO of National City Corporation.
National City intends to use previously allocated facilities, marketing and public relations dollars to cover expenses relative to the program.
No formal transition schedule for the common corporate-wide identity has been disclosed, nor have any details regarding the overall design of the "National City" name.
