NATIONAL CITY BANK PROVIDES FINANCIAL RELIEF FOR FAMILIES OF COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS

CLEVELAND, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Bank is pleased to announce it will sponsor "Early Financial Planning for College," a free seminar for those who have young children or grandchildren who will be attending college. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at St. Peter Chanel High School in Bedford.
"The cost of sending a student to a public college has increased 95 percent over the last ten years," said Ralph Genco, vice president, National City Bank. "We are sponsoring this seminar to educate parents and grandparents on ways to meet college expenses."
Seminar attendees will receive information on present and projected costs of public and private universities. More importantly, they will learn about various savings and investment programs they can take advantage of to meet those costs.
"It's important for parents and grandparents to realize that it's never too early to begin saving for college," said Genco. "Ideally, parents should begin setting aside funds when their oldest child is at least ten years away from high school graduation. There are products and services available that help make this possible."
According to statistics compiled by The College Board in New York, in 1992, tuitions increased faster than the inflation rate for the tenth year in a row. Today, annual college costs range from $9,000 to $25,000 a year.
"National City Bank is one of the leading student loan lenders in the country. We are aware of both the importance of post-secondary education and the substantial costs associated with it," adds Genco. "For parents and grandparents of young children, taking financial planning steps today could mean avoiding excessive borrowing in the future."
The seminar is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 216-476-8891 or 216- 575-3182.
National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) is a $29 billion diversified financial services company headquartered in Cleveland.
