NATIONAL CELLULAR SAFETY WEEK: SAFETY TIPS FOR USING YOUR MOBILE PHONE
ORANGEBURG, N.Y., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of National Cellular Safety Week (May 12-18), the experts at NYNEX Mobile Communications offer the following safety tips for driving and talking safely:
-- Avoid dialing your cellular telephone when the car is in motion; instead, wait till you are at a stop light or stop sign. If traffic is heavy, pull over and then dial, or have a passenger dial for you.
-- Take advantage of phones with "Hands-free" operation capabilities. A small microphone on the driver's side of the car allows you to converse without holding your handset.
-- If you must dial when your car is in motion, program your cellular telephone's speed dial for the most frequently used cellular calls. You'll spend less time looking at the keypad.
-- If traffic conditions demand your full attention, turn your phone off or activate "Call Forwarding."
-- Tell the person you are speaking with that you are using a mobile phone. That way they will know in advance if you have to interrupt the call.
-- Get to know the features and options of your phone through your user manual. Practice using these features while your car is stationary.
-- Make sure that your phone is mounted within comfortable, easy reach.
National Cellular Safety Week will be observed May 12-18 in the United States and Canada. The Cellular Foundation, cellular service providers and cellular equipment manufacturers throughout North America are all supporting this week with a series of television and radio public service announcements promoting responsible use of cellular telephones.
If you have any questions regarding cellular telephones and safety, stop by your local NYNEX Mobile Cellular Center or call 1/800-443-BELL.
