NATIONAL CAR RENTAL RESTRUCTURES ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- National Car Rental System, Inc. has announced a corporate restructuring of its administrative functions designed to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and reinforce empowerment at the profit center level.
The restructuring will involve a reduction in force at its Minneapolis-based headquarters, decentralizing a number of activities and scaling back others that are not critical to daily car rental operations. This will result in a more immediate response to customer satisfaction in the field, eliminating redundancies and increasing operating efficiency.
The restructuring comes at a time of continuing economic uncertainty in the U.S. and around the world and is designed to position the company positively for growth as the business climate eventually recovers. The current condition of the automotive industry and the ongoing downturn in the entire travel industry were also cited for their impact on car rental in general. In addition, several years of low, unrealistic pricing has made cost containment critical in any effort to enhance profit performance in the car rental industry.
The company will maintain its strong sales efforts and field operations consisting of hundreds of locations nationwide, and continue the roll-out of its industry leading, technologically-based service innovations such as the Emerald Aisle and "automatic teller-like" Smart Key machines. Empowerment of the front lines will also be enhanced resulting in increased responsiveness and flexibility in a highly competitive environment.
National Car Rental features General Motors vehicles, and services over 4,600 locations worldwide with its partners Tilden in Canada, Nippon Rent-a-Car in Japan, and Europcar in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
