 ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 24TH ANNUAL THOTH AWARDS COMPETITION
 /ADVANCE/ WASHINGTON, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Capitol Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (NCC/PRSA) announced the winners of its 24th Annual Thoth Awards competition "Celebrate Excellence" today at a luncheon ceremony at the American Film Institute located at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In addition, Bill Bronrott, Bronrott Communications, was presented with the David Apter Memorial Award for Public Service, and Carol Fennelly, Community for Creative Non- Violence, was awarded the Carl F. Hawver Community Service Award.
 NCC/PRSA President David Swanston, APR, emceed the program at the conclusion of his two-year term of office. He was joined on the program by Shear Madness Producer and Director Bruce Jordan.
 This year's Thoth Awards competition had 41 entries vying in eight categories for Thoth Awards and Certificates of Excellence, as well as the top prize, Best of Show. The entries were judged by PRSA Philadelphia. Of particular note this year pushing the number of entries up was the active participation of the association and government communications communities. Alphabetically, beginning with the Community Relations category, the 1992 winners:
 A certificate was awarded to Audrey Yowell on behalf of the National Institute on Drug Abuse for Overcoming Barriers to Drug Abuse Treatment.
 In the Institutional Programs Category, a certificate was awarded to Patricia Bario on behalf of the Balloon Council for Save the Balloons: An Education/Image Campaign for the Balloon Council. A Thoth Award goes to Robert Hunter on behalf of COMSAT Corp. for Creating a Unique Mathematics and Science School in our Nation's Capitol: A Neighborhood Solution to a National Problem.
 In the Marketing Communications category, a certificate was awarded to Allen Carrier with Kaufman Public Relations on behalf of Towers Perrin for Workforce 2000. The Thoth Award went to Mike Ballard on behalf of the Virginia Wineries Association for Vintage Virginia '91.
 In the Program Components -- Audio Visual category, a certificate was awarded to Larry Pintak on behalf of Fleishman Hillard and The Better Vision Institute for the ABCs of Eyecare.
 In the category Program Components - Print, a Thoth Award was presented to Sharon Monson with Fleishman Hillard on behalf of the vision council of America for The ABCs of Eyecare: Promoting Annual Back to School Checkups for Children.
 In the Public Affairs Category, a certificate was awarded to former NCC/PRSA President Bill Rolle on behalf of the Committee for the Preservation of Friendship Heights. The Thoth Award went to Lorraine Thelian with Ketchum Public Relations on behalf of the Road Information Program for New York's Road to Repair -- Creating a Dedicated Transportation Fund.
 In the Public Service category, a Thoth was awarded to Jacelyn Swenson with Susan Carol Associates on behalf of GE Information Services for Letters From Home.
 In the final category, Special Events & Observances, a certificate goes to Marion Joyce with Adams Sandler on behalf of the Bethesda Urban District for Taste of Bethesda. The final Thoth Award and the Best of Show winner is Helen Sullivan with Kaufman Public Relations on behalf of the International Sleep Products Association for Better Sleep Month '91.
 The National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is the second largest chapter in the United States with over 700 members from counseling firms, business and government, associations, labor organizations and non-profit groups.
