NATIONAL BUSINESS LEADERS FORM NEW TJG ADVISORY BOARD

WASHINGTON, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Jefferson Group (TJG), a national public affairs consulting firm headquartered in Washington, has appointed an advisory board of several of the nation's leading business leaders and communications experts. In announcing the move, TJG becomes the largest Washington firm to join the growing number of professional service firms looking to industry leaders for counsel on issues related to corporate growth and diversification.
The advisory board will be chaired by Alexander B. Trowbridge, a former secretary of commerce under President Johnson and past president of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the nation's principal industrial trade association.
"In a remarkably short time, The Jefferson Group has established itself as a major independent government relations firm," said Trowbridge. "At this stage in TJG's growth, the firm has wisely decided to seek counsel on a regular basis from business leaders to help guide its future development and provide long-range strategic advice from outside the Beltway."
Trowbridge is president of Trowbridge Partners Inc., a business consulting firm, and serves on the boards of several major corporations. Other appointments to the advisory board are Louis Harris, president of LH Research and founder of the Harris poll; Joseph R. Wright, vice chairman of W.R. Grace & Co. and a former director of the Office of Management and Budget (1988-89); Gerard R. Roche, chairman of the international search firm of Heidrick and Struggles Inc.; Charles Jones, chairman and CEO of First Funding Corporation and formerly group managing director with Shandwick PLC, one of the world's largest public relations and advertising firms; and Ann Jordan, a corporate consultant and director for a number of important corporations and non-profit organizations.
The new board will meet twice yearly, with its first meeting scheduled in Washington for April 13. The board is charged with helping The Jefferson Group's senior management formulate business development strategies that are responsive to change and trends in a variety of industries and markets.
"Global competition, the advance of technology and other powerful forces have dramatically changed the nature of American business over the past 10 years," said Mark D. Cowan, chairman and CEO of The Jefferson Group. "To provide the best possible service to our clients, we need to fully understand these forces and anticipate future trends. I believe that this superb group of individuals, representing several broad sectors of the economy, will provide invaluable counsel to The Jefferson Group."
The Jefferson Group offers a full range of public affairs and public relations services and specializes in management of issues related to health care reform, environmental policy and international trade. In addition to its Washington headquarters, the firm also has offices in California, Puerto Rico, Colorado and Florida.
