NATIONAL BEVERAGE CONTINUES GROWTH IN TYPICALLY SLUGGISH THIRD QUARTER

 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- With sales up 1.6 percent, National Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ: POPS) today reported that, before losses in an affiliate, earnings for the nine months ended Jan. 30, 1993, increased 18 percent to $6.4 million on net sales of $249.8 million, compared to $5.4 million on net sales of $245.9 million for the same period last year.
 During the typically sluggish third quarter ended Jan. 30, 1993, income, before the equity in loss of an affiliate, was $56,000 on net sales of $62.2 million, compared to a loss of $281,000 on net sales of $61.9 million last year.
 "The strategic plan to promote the company's future through vertical integration continues while the external growth program intensifies," said Nick A. Caporella, chairman and chief executive officer for National Beverage. "The company's distinct position as the only national bottler in the U.S., while having prominent innovative skills in the flavor category, gives us an advantage...in the competitive beverage industry," Caporella concluded.
 National Beverage serves as a holding company for various operating subsidiaries that manufacture, market and distribute its full line of cola and multi-flavored branded soft drinks and bottled water: Shasta(R), Faygo(R), Body Works(R), a Sante(R), and Spree(R). The company's subsidiaries, through their 12 strategically located manufacturing facilities, also bottle soft drinks for retail grocery chains, wholesalers and other soft drink companies.
