NATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD FOR S&L CLEANUP TO HOLD OPEN MEETING
WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- A citizen board that advises the federal government on the disposition of real estate from failed S&Ls will meet on Wednesday, March 11, in Washington, to discuss the regional sales progress of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC).
The National Advisory Board meeting, which is open to the public, will be held from 9 a.m. until noon in the board room of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, 550 17th St. N.W., Washington.
At that time, reports will be given on issues discussed at the latest round of Regional Advisory Board meetings held Feb. 5-27. These reports will include recommendations and observations on the topics of hard-to-sell asset sales strategies and the RTC's real estate information system, among others.
In addition, Peter H. Monroe, president of the Thrift Depositor Protection Oversight Board, will present remarks, and agenda items for the next quarterly series of regional meetings will be determined.
The National Advisory Board meeting will be followed by the first meeting of the newly established National Housing Advisory Board, which begins at 1 p.m. This panel, chaired by Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Jack Kemp, was created to advise the Oversight Board and RTC on issues relating to affordable housing.
The Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 required that the Oversight Board establish one national and six regional private-sector boards to provide advice to the RTC and the Oversight Board on the policies and programs used in the disposition of real estate from the nation's failed S&Ls.
The National Advisory Board meets quarterly in Washington to advise the Oversight Board and the RTC on the status of the RTC's real estate sales efforts in each region. The national board is made up of a national chairperson and the chairpersons of the six regional boards.
Members of the National Advisory Board are: Philip Searle of Naples, Fla., chairman; Henry Berliner of Annapolis, Md.; Richard Tourtellotte of Oklahoma City; Donald Jacobs of Evanston, Ill.; Bayard Friedman of Fort Worth, Texas; Edward Lujan of Albuquerque, N.M.; and James Simmons of Paradise Valley, Ariz.
The Thrift Depositor Protection Oversight Board reviews overall strategies, policies and goals of the RTC and approves, prior to implementation, RTC financial plans, budgets and periodic financing requests.
