NANOMETRICS WILL TEAM WITH INTERACTIVE VIDEO SYSTEMS
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Nanometrics Inc.

(NASDAQ: NANO) announced today that it will team with Interactive Video Systems (IVS) to market and support IVS's AccuVision(TM) line of automated critical dimension and overlay registration metrology systems in Japan. These products will be sold through Nanometrics Japan Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nanometrics Inc. with extensive sales, service and applications engineering capability for the Japanese semiconductor market.
During the last three years, IVS has achieved a leading position in the United States and European semiconductor markets with their AccuVision line of automated, high throughput CD/OL metrology systems. The two companies believe the Japanese market is particularly suitable for the IVS metrology tool because of the present effort by many Japanese semiconductor manufacturers to successfully produce submicron devices including 16- and 64-megabit DRAMS where more precise control of lithographic overlay registration can have a major impact on yields and cost. The latest AccuVision models offer rapid payback and proven reliability, and therefore favorable cost of ownership.
Hans Hoyer, CEO of IVS, said, "We are pleased to have a partner such as Nanometrics with the necessary strengths to back up our product in Japan. We believe that our proprietary technology and reliability will be welcomed by Japanese customers."
Nanometrics will have a demonstration unit available to customers at its Japanese facility in Narita in July 1992. Deliveries to customers will start in the summer of 1992.
Nanometrics' products include automated optical microscope-based film thickness measurement and inspection stations used in the manufacture of semiconductors. Nanometrics is traded on the NASDAQ national market system under the symbol NANO.
