NALCO FUEL TECH RECOGNIZED FOR CONTRIBUTION TO AIR POLLUTION CONTROL

NAPERVILLE, Ill., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Nalco Chemical Company (NYSE: NLC) announced that its joint venture, Nalco Fuel Tech, has received the 1993 J. Deane Sensenbaugh Award for its contribution to the advancement of air pollution control technology.
The award is presented annually by the Air & Waste Management Association to a company or individual in recognition of outstanding achievement in waste management or air pollution control. The award is presented in even years for waste management achievement and in odd years for air pollution control achievement.
Nalco Fuel Tech met a number of criteria which included overall significance of achievement, contribution to the state of the art, level of significance of environmental problem solved, degree of acceptance in the field, environmental impact, and regulatory acceptance.
Nalco Fuel Tech was recognized for its NOxOUT process, which can reduce nitrogen oxide, a major cause of smog and ground-level ozone, up to 70 percent from stationary industrial sources. This selective non- catalytic reduction technology injects a mixture of chemicals into the flue gas of a boiler or furnace and transforms nitrogen oxide into nitrogen and water before it's released into the atmosphere.
The J. Deane Sensenbaugh Award was established by the Air & Waste Management Association in June 1986 in honor of Sensenbaugh, an environmental control engineer active in the association's work for more than 25 years before his death in 1982. He was chairman of the association's Technical Council from 1976 to 1979.
Nalco Fuel Tech is a joint venture between Nalco Chemical Company and Fuel Tech N.V. Formed in 1991, Nalco Fuel Tech designs technologies, products and programs to help customers reduce NOx, SOx and particulate emissions, while maintaining production and staying in compliance with regulatory limits. Nalco Fuel Tech also provides specialty chemical programs and services for air pollution control and other fuel treatment needs.
