NALCO FUEL TECH RECOGNIZED FOR AIR POLLUTION CONTROL ACHIEVEMENTS

 DENVER, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Air & Waste Management Association presents its 1993 J. Deane Sensenbaugh Award to Nalco Fuel Tech in recognition for air pollution control engineering excellence and its NOxOUT(R) Process, which is used to control NOx from stationary combustion sources, it was announced today.
 The award will be presented today at the Honors and Awards Ceremony, which is held during the Air & Waste Management Association's 86th Annual Meeting & Exhibition at the Colorado Convention Center. Per B. Christiansen, president of Nalco Fuel Tech, will accept the award.
 The Air & Waste Management Association presents the J. Deane Sensenbaugh Award to a company or individual in recognition of outstanding organizational achievement in waste management. The award is presented for either air pollution control or material/waste engineering. The criteria for the award include but are not limited to:
 -- Production process changes that minimize by-product formation;
 -- Processes for recycling/reuse of by-products/wastes;
 -- Applied new techniques for destroying wastes; and
 -- Overall improved systems for waste disposal.
 The recipient is a company whose contribution to state-of-the-art technology has been recognized and accepted in commercial status within a 10-year period before the request for nominations.
 Nalco Fuel Tech was formed in February 1990 as a joint venture between Nalco Chemical Company and Fuel Tech, Inc. The joint venture was formed primarily to further the development and commercialization of the NOxOUT(R) Process. When the joint venture was established, there were only three contracts for the application of NOxOUT(R). At the end of 1992 there were over 60 NOxOUT(R) installations either under contract or in operation. NOxOUT(R) has been accepted as Best Available Control Technology (BACT) by many state regulatory agencies for specific fields of use.
 The NOxOUT(R) technology was fi ?commercialized in a petroleum refinery in California in 1988. This plant has been using the technology continuously since that time to meet local NOx emission limits. Nalco Fuel Tech offers guarantees for NOx reduction and by-product formation. These guarantees have been successfully met in all operating commercial units. This in turn assures operators that they will remain within permit limits for this operation.
 The Air & Waste Management Association is a non-profit organization educating professionals, policy makers and the public about practical environmental management. The association fosters the exchange of current technological information and encourages the development of new technology to provide for a cleaner environment. The association strengthens the environmental management profession by defining professional standards, identifying career paths and supporting individuals who are entering the profession. Founded in 1907, the association now has more than 15,000 members throughout the world.
