NABORS INDUSTRIES, INC. ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL CHANGES

HOUSTON, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Nabors Industries, Inc. (AMEX: NBR) today announced a number of personnel changes to its board of directors and international operating management. The company has appointed Hans W. Schmidt to its board.
Schmidt is a well-known leader in the international drilling industry. For the 35 years preceding his 1992 retirement, Schmidt had held a number of senior positions with Bad Bentheim, Germany-based Deutag Drilling, including serving as president and director for the past 10 years. Deutag Drilling is a major international drilling contractor with operations in the Middle East, Far East, South East Asia, Africa, the North Sea and continental Europe. Schmidt also served for the past 10 years as a director of the parent company of Deutag, C. Deilmann AG, a major German-based diversified energy company. From 1988 to 1991, Schmidt served as president of Transocean Drilling Company, a company of which he was also a director from 1981 until 1991.
Nabors also announced the appointment of Seigfried Meissner as president of Nabors Drilling International. Meissner, who is 40 years old, has been employed in the drilling industry since 1978. Most recently, he served as general manager, international operations, for Deutag Drilling. Meissner had worked with Deutag since 1982, starting out as a drilling engineer in that company's head office and then managed area operations in Brunei, Gabon and Turkey before a series of promotions to his most recent position. Meissner is a graduate engineer from the Technical University of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, specializing in oil and gas drilling and reservoir and production engineering.
Darrell W. Williams, president of the company's subsidiary, Nabors Loffland Marketing and Technical Services, has elected to leave his full-time responsibilities with Nabors and open a consulting business geared to the oil service industry. While at Nabors, Williams was involved in the expansion of the company's international land drilling business, the development of drilling technology, including Nabors' new slim hole rigs, and various other projects. Williams will continue to be available to Nabors, consulting on specific projects including the development and commercialization of advanced drilling technology.
Nabors' operations have grown substantially in recent years, both through the acquisition of three international and North American drilling companies and through the development of the company's existing markets. The appointments of Schmidt and Meissner reflect the company's commitment to organizational development and will further help Nabors' growth in its four principal drilling market sectors-Alaska, international land, North Sea platforms and the Lower 48/Canada.
Nabors Industries is one of the largest international land drilling contractors and currently operates 102 land and 16 offshore rigs. Nabors is an active participant in most of the significant oil, gas and geothermal drilling markets in the world, including Alaska, the Middle East, South and Central America, Africa, the Far East, the North Sea, Canada, the U.S. Lower 48 and the Gulf of Mexico. Complementing the company's drilling activities, Nabors provides comprehensive oilfield management, logistics and engineering services.
