NAB apprehends contractor in Rs. 3.5bn WWB scam.
PESHAWAR -- NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday arrested Arsalan Qureshi, Proprietor Arsalan Stationers a co-accused for his alleged involvement in sub-standard, fake and fraudulent purchase of different items including Scientific Equipment, Electrical Instruments, Computers, Refrigerators etc for Worker Welfare Board, (WWB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Project Officer, Worker Welfare Board (WWB) and father of accused Arsalan Qureshi s already in Center Jail Peshawar in the same case, said a release of NAB KP here Thursday.
Inquiry regarding corruption and corrupt practices in procurement of equipment by officers and officials of Worker Welfare Board and other is under progress with NAB. The allegations involved Rs. 3.5 Billion loss to State Exchequer for sub-standard as well as fake purchases in violation of rules.
The inquiry conducted so far has revealed that WWB had purchased more than Rs. 250 million of different items from Arsalan Stationers. Moreover, the company just got registered days before award of contracts and no genuine competition took place.
Rs. 250 million was paid to Arsalan Qureshi, Proprietor Arsalan Stationers for supply of different items for WWB. Fake bid documents were submitted to Tender Opening Committee by stealing letter heads of different companies and the contract was awarded to Arsalan Stationers on highly exorbitant rates, hence huge loss was caused to the State Exchequer.
The accused person will be produced before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining his physical remand.
