NAACP AND NATIONSBANK OPEN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT RESOURCE CENTER
The NAACP and NationsBank will formally open the first of the NAACP Community Development Resource Centers at 400 L-Clanton Road, Charlotte, N.C., on Monday, June 29, from 10-11 a.m.
The NAACP Community Development Resource Centers were established by the NAACP as a result of its historic community development lending partnership with NationsBank. NAACP Community Development Resource Centers are being piloted in five cities serving statewide markets in Austin, Texas; Richmond, Va.; Atlanta; Columbia, S.C.; and Charlotte. The primary purpose of these centers is to help promote an effective delivery system of NationsBank programs and services. Moreover, the centers will undertake areas of initiatives that include small business, economic development, business development outreach, public/private partnerships, affordable housing and consumer lending. Consumer and business education and counseling, economic development advocacy and technical assistance in the area of needs assessment, product development, marketing, lending practices, strategic planning and product and service delivery, will be major emphases of the centers.
Hugh McColl, president and CEO of NationsBank, and Earl T. Shinhoster, Southeast Regional director, NAACP, and administrator, NAACP Community Development Resource Centers, will preside at the opening of the Charlotte center. Introductions of center staff will be made, and specific information on how the general community may access the services of the centers will be discussed.
The media is urged to attend.
