NAA PAC State Ambassador profile: Gale Lively, Executive Vice President, Louisville Apt. Assn.

NAA launched the NAA PAC State Ambassador Program last year in an effort to expand NAA's influence and to continue the commitment of developing a first-rate PAC.

Serving as an NAA PAC State Ambassador gives NAA members the opportunity to educate fellow members about the benefits of supporting the NAA PAC.

An Ambassador helps increase the number of members who my authorized to be solicited in their state and helps ensure that their state meets or exceeds its fair share goal. In addition, Ambassadors develop long-term relationships with members of Congress and multifamily housing industry leaders.

Gale Lively, Executive Vice President of the Louisville Apartment Association, has served as PAC Ambassador for more than a year. She is one of 58 Ambassadors serving the NAA PAC.

For information on becoming a PAC Ambassador, contact Bradley Hix, NAA's Manager of NAA PAC and Grassroots, by e-mail to Bradley@naahq.org or call 703/518-6141.

Why did you volunteer to be a PAC Ambassador?

I understand the value of political involvement on a local and national level. The Louisville Apartment Association has always had a powerful presence both locally and state, vide. I wanted to be involved in NAA's PAC efforts to become more influential on Capitol Hill.

What have you found to be your biggest challenge?

One challenge has been getting our members to understand that a strong NAA PAC is vital to the multifamily housing industry. Most volunteers feel their monetary contributions are not enough to influence the national political arena.

What is most rewarding about being an Ambassador?

Getting people to become involved in NAA PAC who have never considered that their contribution could really make a difference is very rewarding.

What goals have you set for yourself this year?

Our goal is to increase participation and commitment from owners and managers who have not stepped forward to contribute in the past.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming an Ambassador?

In order to be an effective Ambassador, you must realize the importance of the political process and be committed enough to the effort to make it happen.

Keep in mind that people tend to devote time and energy to issues and causes for which they are most passionate.
