N.Y. stocks rebound on favorable economic data.

NEW YORK, Oct. 1 Kyodo

New York stocks rebounded Friday on favorable economic data in China as well as in the United States.

The 30-issue Dow Jones Industrial Average, which lost 47.23 points Thursday, gained 41.63 points to finish at 10,829.68.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index, which shed 7.94 points the previous day, edged up 2.13 points to 2,370.75.

Stocks drew buying on better Chinese economic figures and steady U.S. consumer confidence data for August, market analysts said.

With worse-than-expected data in the U.S. manufacturing industry weighing on the market, however, stocks temporarily entered negative territory, they said.
