Mythbusters to test authenticity of Breaking Bad shows.

Although the Emmy-award winning show Breaking Bad has been praised for its realistic characters and storytelling, the reality series Mythbusters is busting the hazmat jumpsuits out to test its scientific authenticity.

Mythbusters, in which everything from urban legends to Hollywood scenes are scrutinised in the name of science, will put AMC's drama Breaking Bad under the microscope with an episode that includes appearances by star of series Aaron Paul and creator Vince Gilligan.

In a special episode airing in the spring, the whole Mythbusting team will be testing the scientific accuracy of the show's most beloved scenes and blasts.

"We've been wanting to do a Breaking Bad episode for a while," says Mythbusters host Adam Savage. "Obviously there's a lot of fertile material to play with, so things that happen on the show have been ending up on our list of stories to tackle for a couple years now. And when Vince said in an interview that he'd love to see a Mythbusters/Breaking Bad crossover, we reached out to him directly and the response was overwhelmingly positive."

Savage and co-host Jamie Hyneman will test the science from a scene in Season One of the show, in which Paul's Jesse Pinkman uses hydrofluoric acid to dissolve a body but ignores instructions from Walt, played by Bryan Cranston, to use a plastic container. Jesse places the body in a bathtub instead and the acid eats right through the tub, which winds up falling through the floor.

A second experiment based on another scene from the show's first season will also be conducted targeting one of the explosions. The Mythbusters gang had actually planned to do a third, but the other two turned out to be so 'meaty' they opted to save it for a possible sequel episode.

Mythbusters airs every day on Discovery at 6.15pm and Discovery HS Showcase on Saturdays and Sundays at 10.55am with a repeat at 3.35pm. Breaking Bad airs every Tuesday at 10pm on OSN First/OSN First HD.
