My word it's 75 years old.

A lecture is taking place in Newcastle to mark the 75th birthday of the Oxford English Dictionary.

Journalist Simon Winchester will give his talk, The meaning of everything: The story of the Oxford English Dictionary, in the Curtis Auditorium of the Herschel Building at Newcastle University tomorrow at 5.30pm.

He will recount the long and tortuous process of the production of the dictionary.

Mr Winchester will also bring to life the many exotic characters involved, such as editor Frederick Furnivall.
