My Unites show will be the tops; Stars line up for new Gest date.

TV STAR David Gest today vowed to bring some of the world's greatest performers to the city for a fundraiser in aid of Liverpool Unites.

The producer is hosting the first Liverpool Achievement In Arts Awards next month.

Cash will go to the ECHO's children's charity Liverpool Unites and the Variety Club.

The glitzy bash, which will be held at the Adelphi on October 16, will honour Hollywood actress Jane Russell, American soul star Ben E. King, When A Man Loves A Woman singer Percy Sledge and The Temptations' Dennis Edwards.

They will be belting out hits on the night.

Other performers lined-up are Russell Thompkins Junior and The New Stylistics, US singer Deniece Williams, famous for songs such as Let's Hear It For The Boy, and X Factor winner Shayne Ward.

I'm A Celebrity star David said: "It is going to be something so spectacular.

"It is such a strong line-up. We have great people like Candi Staton performing on the evening and there will be so much beautiful music, everyone will come away on cloud nine.

"I have spoken to Liverpool Unites and the Variety Club about honouring legendary talent every year.

"I am a big supporter of both charities. I called a bunch of people and they all wanted to take part on the night.

"It will be such a fun-filled show and I hope the people of Liverpool will support it by joining us for dinner and music.

"My security guard has a child who is disabled and when you see children like that, you realise you can help make their lives more enjoyable.

"There are so many kids from Merseyside who need help. If we can help them we are doing something good for society - and it makes it easier for us to get to heaven."

Other acts include Joe Longthorne, Freda Payne, William Bell, Peabo Bryson, Dorothy Moore, Jimmy Ruffin, Billy Paul and Kim Weston.

The Liverpool Achievement In Arts Awards take place at 6.30pm on Friday October 16.

Tickets, which include dinner and the show, are pounds 150 or pounds 300.

For tickets, call Lyn Staunton or Katie Mercer on 0151-285 8400.
