Musical society with a lot to celebrate; Musicals.

TWO new shows have been announced by Huddersfield Light Opera Company which next year celebrates its centenary.

The society, founded in 1912, will see in its special year with a production of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs which will run at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on January 4.

And for its big musical in the spring, the society has chosen a West End hit, Me And My Girl.

News of the shows came at the Light's annual meeting held in its rehearsal rooms in Dundas Street.

Tim Collins was re-elected as the society's president with other officers elected including Sylvia Collins (general manager), Jean Boyd (assistant general manager), Chris Brearley (stage director), Shirley Ward (treasurer) and Wendy Taylor (secretary).

Long service National Operatic and Dramatic Association long service medals were presented to Shirley Ward (25 year medal); Kay Moorhouse (second bar 35 years' service); Mavis Hinchliff (fourth bar 40 years' service); Joyce Edmondson (diamond bar 60 years' service)
