Music: Cheeky boys win by a nose; Gig of the Week: Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds.
IF YOU think the headline band at Ku Bar in Stockton tonight have picked a terrible name, it could have been worse.
Apparently CHEEKY CHEEKY AND THE NOSEBLEEDS (above) won in a toss-up with Cheap Whisky And The Coca Colas last summer. Six months later Charlie (vocals/ guitar), Rory (vocals), Christian (guitar), Thom (bass) and drummer Ali, all still teenagers, have released their debut single Slow Kids and are now on the road.
Shortly after finishing their A-Levels the band first posted some songs on MySpace, which is when they came to the attention of Radio 1's Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq.
Huw played the demos on his In New Music We Trust show and Steve Lamacq invited the band in to record a live session and even played the demo of Slow Kids in his Best of 2007 show.
Thom decided to have Slow Kids tattooed across his chest on his way back from an all night party, but it wasn't a proper tattoo parlour. The tattoo actually reads "Slow Kios" and looks like it was done by a four-year-old.
Also at the Ku Bar tonight are Glasgow rockers FRIGHTENED RABBIT and local indie upstarts SHOEBOX, who are beginning to make a name for themselves around these parts.
