Murray equalises for GB.

Summary: Andy Murray drew Great Britain level at 2-2 in their Davis Cup relegation play-off against Poland.

Andy Murray drew Great Britain level at 2-2 in their Davis Cup relegation play-off against Poland with a straight-sets win over teenager Jerzy Janowicz at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

With Murray and Ross Hutchins having lost the doubles rubber yesterday, victory for the British number one over an opponent ranked 261 in the world was essential to their hopes of avoiding defeat and subsequent relegation to Europe/Africa Zone Group II.

And he was largely untroubled in a 6-3 6-4 6-3 victory that means the final singles rubber between British rookie Dan Evans and Poland's Michal Przysiezny will decide the outcome of the tie.

Murray's left wrist problem has been the main talking point of the tie but, apart from playing mostly sliced backhands rather than his favoured double-hander, it did not appear to be affecting him unduly.

A fired-up Murray began in style with four service winners and broke Janowicz in the fourth game when the Pole dumped a volley into the net.

Janowicz, 18, stands 6ft 6in tall and demonstrated in the early stages the power game that had helped him beat Evans in straight sets on Friday with a couple of scorching winners.
