Murder by neglect; LETTERS.

I AM sure most people would agree with the letter in the December 5 issue sent in by Neville Layhe. He could also have mentioned the method of death allowed in the Care Pathway.

To me, the withholding of food and drink is murder by neglect. It is against the law to give a dying willing patient a painless injection, but within the law to starve someone to death whether they have agreed or not.

I read of a 14-year-old boy whose mouth was so dry because the Care Pathway would not allow him a drink, that his tongue had adhered to the roof of his mouth before he died. Anyone who suffers from a dry mouth can see how this could happen. What cruelty!
