Muntinlupa breaks reading record.

Manila, Philippines --- Muntinlupa City yesterday broke the world record on most adults reading to children in a single location with 19,110 participants as the city marked its 19th cityhood anniversary.

The event erased the current record of the Changhua county government in Taiwan, which had 3,682 adults reading to 4,074 children on April 24, 2011.

The world record setting event was held at Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang yesterday morning.

It was attended by Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, former Muntinlupa congressman Ruffy Biazon, Vice Mayor Artemio Simundac, Undersecretary for External Linkages Mario Deriquito of the Department of Education (DepEd), Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs Tonisito Umali of DepEd Main and Superintendent Priscila de Sagun of DepEd Muntinlupa.

The two witnesses were Director Ramon Bacani of SEAMEO-INNOTECH Regional Center and Dr. Melissa Alma Orencia, president of the Reading Association of the Philippines.
