Video footage has emerged showing the moment a woman abandoned hernewbornin a plastic bag behind a supermarket moments aftergiving birth.

The tot was rushed to hospital with hypothermia when concerned members of the public made the discovery yesterday.

The baby's condition there remains serious.

It is believed the 36-year-old mother, who has two other children, gave birth in a nearby bush alone and cut the umbilical cord herself.

Distressing footage is now being used in the police investigation.

It appears to show the mum leave the child in a bag behind the supermarket in Cheremshan, southwest Russia.

She turns around and returns to the bag for a moment but then finally leaves the scene.

It is understood to have happened behind the supermarket at which the parent works as a cashier.

She has since been arrested and remains in custody.

Police claim the mum started her contractions while walking on a street nearby yesterday.

The force confirmed officers and paramedics dashed to the scene in the Tatarstan region when the tot was found naked and distressed.

The probe continues.
