Multitasking, memory management, icons - all without Windows.

For those who don't like Microsoft's Windows but still want to multitask, running both Windows and DOS programs simultaneously in a Windowslike environment, there's DESQview/X.

Screens can be opened, closed, moved and scaled to size with the click and drag of a mouse. Like Windows, the program contains a host of extras: file management, a clock, calendar, scalable fonts and a collection of games, to name a few.

In addition, it contains one of the best memory-management programs in the industry. Handling memory - making use of extended, expanded and high memory - in today's high-powered computers is a problem few computer users have either the time or the inclination to solve. With DESQview/X loaded, they don't have to. By just typing OPTIMIZE at the DOS prompt, they can scan a computer's setup and automatically configure the available memory, fine-tuning a computer to run as powerfully and manage its memory as efficiently as it can.

DESQview/X requires at least 4 megabytes of random-access memory and 10 Mb of disk space. The program costs $275 and is available at most software retailers.
