Multilingual brochure on road safety unveiled.

MUSCAT: With a view to improving road safety, a multilingual brochure advocating the best practices while driving was launched at the second Traffic Safety Expo.

The brochure was presented by Royal Oman Police and supported by Shell Oman. Lt. Gen. Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, was presented a copy of the brochure at the event. The brochure has been printed in nine languages, including English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Sinhalese, Tagalog and Bangla.

Speaking to Times of Oman, Mohammed Al Farsi, GM of Shell Oman External Affairs, who supported the campaign, said: "The aim of launching the multilingual brochure is to spread the road safety message to all sections of the society."

Explaining how the idea of the brochure was initiated, Lakshmi Kothaneth, radio and TV journalist, said: "It was our personal initiative.

My colleague from the industry Kabeer Yousuf and I thought we must go beyond doing articles or programmes on road safety. All the road safety brochures are either in Arabic or English. So, we thought we must reach others also who are using the roads."
