1.1.1 The University of Cambridge, Department of Biochemistry provides modern laboratory accommodation and state of art research facilities.
1.1.2 In 1989, the Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research UK Institute, part of the School of Biological Sciences in the University of Cambridge, was founded to promote research in the areas of developmental biology and cancer biology, and to foster a collaborative environment for independent research groups with diverse but complementary interests. In 2004 the Institute changed its name to the Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute (and has become known as ~The Gurdon Institute~) in recognition of the achievements of Professor Sir John Gurdon, 1 of the founder members.
2 Scope of Requirements:
2.1 The Livesey lab as part of the Gurdon Institute, investigates the development, evolution and disease of the cerebral cortex. The focus of the research in the lab is on how the brain develops and ages, and how changes to this process can cause conditions such as Down Syndrome and dementia. We are using neurons derived from human pluripotent stem cells to explore the mechanisms at work in neuro-development and degeneration. In support of this research, the Livesey Lab requires a Multi Photon Microscope, more fully described in Section 3 of this tender.
3 Equipment Demonstrations:
3.1 It is the University~s intention to complete the tender evaluation in such time that the contract for this equipment could be awarded within 6 weeks of the tender closing date. Please note that companies invited to tender may be required to provide access to demonstrations of their proposed systems at appropriate premises.
