Mr. Orner and RADM Cowley visit NCTRF.

RADM Robert E. Cowley III, Commander, Navy Exchange Command and Jeffery Orner, Executive Director, Naval Supply Systems Command, recently met at the Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility (NCTRF) in Natick, Mass., for orientation briefings and to discuss issues associated with providing personal protective clothing and equipment to the fleet.

NCTRF's mission includes research, development, test and evaluation, as well as post fielding fleet support, for uniform items and protective ensembles used by the Sailor.

In addition to receiving an extensive briefing on the facility's concerns regarding personal protection, Orner and Cowley toured the various laboratories at NCTRF (Pattern & Prototype, Textile, Laundry, Flame/Thermal, and Biophysical) used to research and develop effective solutions to the fleet's needs.

Throughout the visit, NCTRF associates discussed many new initiatives, including the Joint Protective Aircrew Ensemble and the new Navy Working Uniform ensembles.

Others in attendance included CDR Lisa Vickers, LCDR Mark Friermood, LT Jim Natali, and SKCS(SW) Cleveland Rogers (all from NEXCOM); William Naughton, NAWC; and Dr. Barbara Avellini, Sue Reeps, and Louise Caulfield (all from NCTRF).
