Moving on.

* At last! The bishops have taken bold, courageous action. It is about time. Nose to the grindstone. Shoulder to the wheel.

They have stood for something so important to all the church. It is about time that someone did something about the "Lamb of God" and all those extra verses (NCR, Oct. 26-Nov. 8).

We have all stood, or knelt, there, putting up with all that stuff about "Bread of Life" and "Prince of Peace" and all those overly romantic gushings about Jesus, waiting for our chance to rush forward to "get" Communion.

Now they have freed us from all that extra verbiage. Now with this important decision out of the way, maybe we can get to some of those lesser concerns like poverty and shortage of clergy and issues of abuse and meaningful preaching and how to be a good Christian and a good citizen.

First things have been put first: a shorter "Lamb of God."
