DIG! (15)

YOU may not have heard of The Dandy Warhols, but you have heard their music.

They sang Bohemian Like You, used relentlessly by Vodafone for their TV adverts.

But I doubt many people know the Brian Jonestown Massacre, who have never had a hit in Britain. That's partly due to the self-destructive behaviour of their charismatic and talented but drug-addled lead singer, Anton Newcombe.

This impressive piece of film-making spends seven years following the love-hate relationship, and contrasting fortunes, of Newcombe and Courtney Taylor of the Dandy Warhols.

The documentary captures Newcombe's manic antics, drug busts and gigs which turn into riots because he fights with his bandmates and the audience. Meanwhile the inter-band rivalry escalates until the Dandy Warhols take out a restraining order.

There's only so much patience you can have for self-indulgent musicians, but Dig! slowly draws you into its world and is an interesting look behind the scenes of the music business.
