Movie reviews: Chick flick delivers the goods; WOMEN TALKING DIRTY (15).
It's set in Edinburgh where two students, Cora (Helena Bonham Carter) and Ellen (Gina McKee), drop out for different reasons.
Cora gets pregnant by her French boyfriend; Ellen gets married to suave, sexy, self-centred Daniel (James Purefoy).
But soon Cora is on her own as a single mother and Ellen is sobbing as Daniel sleeps around. They've got each other, but even that bond will be put under huge pressure when Cora gives up her biggest secret.
This is a world where women soldier on and all men are b******s - except, of course, James Nesbitt, reprising his lovely Irish charmer from Cold Feet and Lucky Break.
Bonham Carter's wacky, spirited character, with her over-pronounced Scottish accent, smacks at times of an actress showing off, but McKee is wonderful from beginning to end.
And the girls' friendship does ring true.
With Bridget Jones's Diary done and dusted, the hen party brigade are on the look-out for another chick flick that will deliver the goods.
Women Talking Dirty is the middle-class thirtysomething girls' good night out.
Ladies, you'll enjoy it better in a crowd.
Gentlemen, stay home and watch the footie.
