Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE: MSI) has been awarded a contract worth USD376.2m from Bucks county, Pennsylvania, to provide the latest P25 communications technology, the company announced on Monday.
Motorola said that the P25 communication technology will provide increased radio system coverage and channel capacity, as well as greater interoperability among all public safety users in the county.
Bucks County commissioners unanimously approved the contract for an ASTRO 25 system with P25 Phase 2 TDMA trunking.
The new ASTRO 25 system with P25 Phase 2 TDMA will enable the county and its 54 communities to meet the narrowbanding requirements set forth by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) before the 1 January 2013 deadline. The new system will be used by all public safety agencies in the county, including police, fire and EMS, and will provide interoperability and enhanced emergency response among agencies in the county. It will also enable future interoperability with surrounding agencies.
Motorola said that the P25 TDMA trunking feature for Motorola ASTRO 25 systems doubles the voice capacity of Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) technology for more efficient use of the spectrum, providing Bucks County public safety users with improved system access. Also, the P25 Phase 2 system will provide GPS capability, encryption for police radios and improved efficiency through over-the-air programming of radios, which will include Motorola Solutions APX portable radios.
Motorola Solutions is a provider of mission-critical communication solutions and services for enterprise and government customers.
