Motorists warned about roadworks.
MOTORISTS are being warned of roadworks starting next week which could affect their journeys, The work, starting on Monday, will be to resurface the roundabouts and entry and exit slip roads at the Stannington interchange, on the A1 north of Newcastle.
There will be no access to either of the two roundabouts at the junction and their associated slip roads between 8pm and 6am for 11 nights.
The A1 through the junction will remain open throughout the work, and all restrictions will be removed outside working hours.
However drivers wanting to use the junction overnight will be directed to follow one of four fully signed diversion routes.
The diversions which will be in place are as follows: A1 Northbound Entry |Slip Road Closure at Stannington Bridge: Traffic diverted south to Seaton Burn Interchange then onto the A1 Northbound.
A1 Northbound Exit | Slip Road Closure at Stannington South: Traffic diverted A1 northbound to exit at A1/A167 Clifton Interchange. Traffic diverted onto A1 southbound to A1 Stannington Interchange southbound exit. A1 Northbound Exit |Slip Road Closure at Stannington Interchange: Traf-fic diverted A1 northbound to exit at A1/A167 Clifton Interchange. Traffic diverted onto A1 southbound to A1 Stannington Interchange southbound exit. A1 Southbound Clo-|sure at Stannington Station Exit Slip: Traffic diverted south to Stannington Station Road, then east to A192. Traffic to travel south to A192/A1068 Roundabout. High loads to continue east on A192 to A1171 then south to A1172 then west along A1172 to A1172/A1068 roundabout. No high loads to continue south on A1068 to A1068/A1172 roundabout. All traffic to continue south on A1068 to A19 Fisher Lane roundabout. Traffic to travel west to join A1 via southbound entry slip road.
