Motorists out of cluck as chicken lorry blocks M4.

A STRETCH of motorway was blocked for more than seven hours after a lorry full of chickens overturned and spilled its live load.

The articulated lorry was on the westbound stretch of the M4, near junction 24, between Coldra and Caerleon when its load of more than 2,000 chickens was upturned. Firefighters from Maindee, Malpas and Cwmbran stations were called to the scene at 3.30pm yesterday and were still on hand providing lighting and making the scene safe until around 10.45pm, while officers from the RSPCA collected the poultry.

The driver was taken to hospital in Newport.
