Motorcyclist injured.

A motorcyclist, 43, is in hospital with serious injuries following an accident that saw a road closed for 90 minutes on Saturday evening.

The rider, from St Helen Auckland, near Bishop Auckland in County Durham, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital following the collision on the A689 at Howden-le-Wear, near Crook. He was travelling towards High Grange on his Suzuki 500cc at about 7.30pm when he overtook a bus and collided with an Vauxhall Astra. He suffered serious abdominal injuries and a broken thigh and pelvis.

The car driver, from High Grange, escaped injury but his wife was taken to hospital with suspected broken ribs.
