Most part of temporary detention facilities do not meet standards -- MP Bekeshev.

The most part of temporary detention facilities in Kyrgyzstan do not meet standards, MP Dastan Bekeshev, chairman of the parliamentary committee for human rights, equal opportunities and public associations, said at the meeting with UN Special Rapporteur for Tortures Juan Mendez. He said the parliamentary committee established a commission for monitoring of the temporary detention facilities. The commission conducted monitoring in 38 facilities out of total 47. Violations were found in almost every detention facility. "The most serious problem is temporary detention facilities themselves. The most part of the detention facilities were built around 70 years ago. A minor repair won't be help. However, there is shortage of funds," Bekeshev stressed. The lawmaker told about the initiative to create the national center for torture prevention in Kyrgyzstan. The respective bill on the center is under consideration of the Parliament, he said.
