Morse Diesel named for new Boston Garden.

The Boston Office of Morse Diesel International has been selected as the general contractor for the New Boston Garden arena.

Scheduled for completion in October 1995, the New Boston Garden is being built to replace the existing Boston Garden sports arena, the home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, and will host concerts, circuses, and other events as well.

Located on a site just north of the existing Garden, the new arena will feature a maximum seating capacity of 19,600, which includes 2,516 preferred seats. In addition, there are 104 executive suites on two levels, with the potential for additional executive suites on a future third level.

The New Boston Garden is being constructed on air rights over the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority's new parking garage and commuter rail platform.

In its construction management role, Morse Diesel is providing expertise to meet project challenges in the areas of Project Logistical Planning, Community-based Subcontracting, Continuing Value Analysis, as well as overall Cost and Schedule Control. Base building construction cost for the project is $89 million, out of a total arena cost of $160 million.
