Morris Companies completes 734,000 sf retail facility.

The 734,000-square-foot ShopRite/-Wakefern general merchandise distribution center, the largest build-to-suit in central New Jersey in more than 25 years, has been completed, according to Ron Schram, senior vice president of Marketing for The Morris Companies, developers of the ShopRite/Wakefern facility. Wakefern is a retailer-owned cooperative and the wholesale merchandising and distribution arm for ShopRite supermarkets.

The ShopRite/Wakefern complex is set on 56 acres in South Brunswick at Exit 8A off the New Jersey Turnpike and is being used as a health and beauty aids distribution facility to expand ShopRite's one-stop shopping concept to its stores located throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The Morris Companies also designed 45,000 square feet of office space as part of the ShopRite/Wakefern complex.

The facility employs more than 400 people and features a state-of-the-art computer inventory and automatic conveyor system to allow for maximum storage and distribution control.

The South Brunswick site, on Davidson Mill Road is strategically located at the midpoint of the Northeast Corridor. ShopRite/Wakefern will benefit from being so centrally located between Washington D.C. and Boston as well as being minutes from the Route 1 Corridor, Princeton, New York City, the Philadelphia/Baltimore area, the Newark ports and Newark International Airport.

In another development which also ranks as one of Central NJ's largest in many years, The Morris Companies recently completed Canon, U.S.A.'s Eastern Regional Headquarters in Jamesburg, New Jersey. The $37 million, 442,000-square-foot facility is situated on 41 acres and includes a 165,000-square-foot, three-story office building and a separate 247,000-square-foot parts and merchandise warehouse.
