Morocco unveils USD 2.1 bln clean energy-focused programme.

The 5-year programme plans the creation of an industrial zone named 'Ple Kyoto' (referring to the Kyoto Protocal) aimed at attracting foreign investors. '[The] objective of this technological pole is to attract foreign investors who will be able to benefit from the existing port infrastructure and the different tax benefits. And this is to make so that their operational capacity in Morocco grows,' theaDirector General of ONE, Younes Maamar, declared recently.

The country, whichaimportsaallaof itsaoil and gas needs,ais now considering renewable energy as a strategicaalternative to reduce gradually its energy dependance, and even export 'clean energy' to Europe. Indeed, Moroccoais committed toamore than double its renewable energy capacity (solar and wind) by 2012.
