Morocco passes 100% mobile penetration.
Morocco continues its push toward widespread mobile phone penetration. According to a recent study by telecommunications regulator ANRT, the country's penetration rose by 20 points to 101,49 percent in 2009, the most recent statistics.
The market also saw 26.36 percent mobile customer growth, reaching 31.98 million at the end of December, up from 25.31 million.
The fastest quarter of year-on-year customer growth was the third, at 9.41 percent, followed by the first at 6.46 percent.
Maroc Telecom had a 52.81 percent share at the end of 2010, versus 33.74 percent for Medi Telecom and 13.45 percent for Wana Corporate. In December 2009, they were 60.34, 37.27 and 2.39 percent, respectively.
Prepaid accounts for 96.16 percent of the market. The fixed market saw 6.63 percent customer growth to 3.75 million, with penetration reaching 11.9 percent. Residential lines represent 85.37 percent, business 10.75 percent and payphones 3.88 percent. Wana Corporate has a 66.72 percent share of Morocco's fixed line market, followed by Maroc Telecom (32.83%) and Medi Telecom (0.45%).
The internet market, including fixed and mobile, grew by 57.29 percent to 1.87 million customers. Internet penetration, which stood at 0.38 percent in 2004, was 5.92 percent in 2010. Maroc Telecom has a 56 percent internet market share, Wana Corporate 29.86 percent and Medi Telecom 14 percent.
