Morocco, leading African country in integrating environmental policy in development- OSS official.

Summary: Rabat - Morocco is among the few African countries to have integrated an environmental policy in sustainable development, said executive secretary of the Tunis-based Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS),Chadli Fezzani, on Monday.

Morocco has been participating effectively in developing partnerships with OSS member countries in order to face the challenges of desertification and other environmental issues, Fezzani told MAP on the sidelines of a meeting of the Observatory's executive board.

Morocco, as a founding member of the OSS, has provided technical and scientific expertise in the field of environment, Fezzani added.

The Maghreb Drought Early Warning System (Life-Third Countries) is among the fruits of Morocco's collaboration with the OSS, he said, noting that this project enabled notably the assessment of desertification early warning systems and the development of indicators of vulnerability to this phenomenon.

Organized by the High Commissioner for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, the OSS Executive Board's meeting (March 28 to 29), was chaired by Tunisian Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Mokhtar Jellali.
