Mori to stay overnight at hospital for checkup.

TOKYO, April 7 Kyodo

Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori will stay overnight at a Tokyo hospital Friday for a regular checkup, a secretary to the premier said.

The checkup at the Toranomon Hospital was scheduled before he became prime minister Wednesday, Toru Ishida said.

Ishida quoted Mori as saying he wants to undergo the checkup now because he may not have another opportunity to do so for some time.

On Wednesday, Mori succeeded Keizo Obuchi, who remains in a coma after suffering a stroke on Sunday.

Mori is not known to have any major health problems.
